Turn Site Blocker on or off
Turn Site Blocker on when you want the standalone app available directly from your Momentum dashboard.

- Open Settings :settings-2: → General.
- Find Site Blocker :momentum-site-blocker:.
- Turn Site Blocker on or off.
When turned on, Site Blocker appears on your dashboard. Turning it off removes the app from your dashboard.
Allow Site Blocker permissions
The first time you enable Site Blocker, Momentum may need additional browser permissions before it can block websites.
If you see Site Blocker needs permissions:
- Click Review.
- Review the browser permission request.
- Click Allow.
- Return to Momentum.
💡 Why does Site Blocker need permission? Momentum needs permission to access websites so Site Blocker can recognize when you're visiting a blocked domain and step in while blocking is active.
Start and stop Site Blocker
Once your Blocked Groups are set up, you can start or stop blocking directly from the standalone Site Blocker app whenever you need it.
Start blocking websites
- Open Site Blocker :momentum-site-blocker: from your dashboard.
- Check that the Blocked Groups and websites you want to block are turned on.
- Click Start blocking websites.
Site Blocker will begin blocking your selected websites.
💡 Check if Site Blocker is active: A shield icon :shield-ban: appears next to the Site Blocker icon while blocking is active. If there's no shield, Site Blocker isn't currently blocking websites.
Stop blocking websites
When you're ready to end your blocking session:
- Open Site Blocker :momentum-site-blocker:.
- Click Stop blocking websites.
Your selected websites become accessible again, while your Blocked Groups and website selections stay saved and ready for your next session.
⚠️ Using Unstoppable Mode? You can't manually stop Site Blocker while Unstoppable Mode is active. You'll need to wait until the Unstoppable Mode timer finishes.
Choose and manage blocked websites
You don't have to build your block list from scratch. Site Blocker comes with predefined Blocked Groups containing common distracting websites, giving you a ready-to-use starting point that you can customize around your own browsing habits.
Use the default Blocked Groups
The default groups include:
- 📣 Social Media — Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, X, Reddit, Discord, Snapchat, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Threads, Bluesky, and more.
- 📺 Entertainment — YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Twitch, Hulu, Vimeo, Max, Steam, Rumble, and more.
- 📰 News — Popular news, sports, technology, and media websites.
- 🛒 Shopping — Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, Craigslist, Etsy, Rakuten, and more.
- ✉️ Email — Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook.
Turn the toggle beside a Blocked Group on or off to control the entire group at once.
Manage individual websites
Open a Blocked Group to see and manage the websites inside it.
From there, you can:
- Turn a website on or off without removing it.
- Click ••• beside a website to access additional options.
- Delete a website from the group.
- Click + to add another website.
💡 Toggle off or delete? Turn a website off if you might want to block it again later. It stays in the group, ready to turn back on anytime. Choose Delete if you want to remove it from the group completely.
When adding a website, you don't need to include www or https://.
Blocking the main domain also blocks pages underneath it. For example, blocking instagram.com also blocks instagram.com/login.
💡 Managing sites while blocking is active: When Site Blocker is actively blocking websites, changes to your blocked sites may be restricted. Stop Site Blocker first if you need to fully edit or remove websites from your block list.
Create a custom Blocked Group
Want to organize distractions differently? Create your own Blocked Group:
- Open Site Blocker :momentum-site-blocker:.
- Click + beside Blocked Groups.
- Create your new group.
- Open the group and add the websites you want to include.
💡 Your changes save automatically. Websites you add, edit, delete, or turn on or off are automatically saved and synced. The same block lists are used whether you're managing Site Blocker from the standalone app or using it in Focus Mode :momentum-focus-mode:.
Use Site Blocker in Focus Mode
Keep distracting websites out of reach while you focus, so you can stay with the task at hand without being pulled into another tab. Once enabled for Focus Mode :momentum-focus-mode:, Site Blocker automatically blocks your selected websites whenever you start a focus session.
To enable Site Blocker in Focus Mode:
- Open Settings :settings-2: → Focus Mode
- Find Site Blocker under Avoid distractions.
- Turn Site Blocker on.
- Start a Focus Mode session.
Once your session begins, Site Blocker automatically starts blocking the websites and Blocked Groups you've enabled.
Adjust blocked sites at the start of Focus Mode
Site Blocker behaves a little differently in Focus Mode. You'll have a 5-minute adjustment period at the beginning of your session to review your blocked sites.
A countdown appears at the bottom of Site Blocker showing how much time you have left to make changes.
During these first 5 minutes, you can disable or remove blocked sites. After the adjustment period ends, you can only add or enable sites until your Focus Mode session ends.
Block sites during Focus Mode breaks
If you want Site Blocker to continue blocking your selected websites during Focus Mode breaks:
- Open Site Blocker :momentum-site-blocker:.
- Click •••.
- Turn on Block sites during breaks.
What happens when a site is blocked
When you try to visit a blocked website, Site Blocker replaces the site with a minimal screen designed to give you a moment to reconsider the distraction.
The screen shows your current task or intention, bringing your attention back to what you were working on. You'll also see your Resistance streak, which tracks how many times you've resisted opening a distraction.
From the blocking screen, you can return to Momentum, close the tab, or complete the brief pause before choosing to continue to the website.
Your Resistance streak resets if you choose to continue to the blocked website.
💡 Using Unstoppable Mode? Blocked websites can't be bypassed while Unstoppable Mode is active. You'll see No access in Unstoppable Mode and will need to wait until the timer ends before accessing the site.
Use Unstoppable Mode
Need stronger boundaries when you really don't want distractions getting through? Unstoppable Mode :octagon-x: prevents you from disabling or bypassing Site Blocker for a set amount of time.
Unstoppable Mode works the same whether you're using Site Blocker as a standalone app or inside Focus Mode :momentum-focus-mode:.

Unstoppable Mode is available to Momentum Plus members. Standard users can use Site Blocker in Focus Mode for a limited time each day, but don't have access to Unstoppable Mode.
Start Unstoppable Mode
- Open Site Blocker :momentum-site-blocker:.
- Click the Unstoppable Mode icon :octagon-x:
- Choose how long you want Unstoppable Mode to run.
- Click Start.
The first time you start Unstoppable Mode, Momentum displays a confirmation banner explaining that site blocking can't be disabled while Unstoppable Mode is active.
You'll have two options:
- I understand — Confirm and start Unstoppable Mode.
- Cancel — Return without starting Unstoppable Mode.
⚠️ First-time reminder: This confirmation appears only the first time you use Unstoppable Mode. On future sessions, you won't see the same reminder before Unstoppable Mode starts, so make sure you're ready for the full duration you select.
Once Unstoppable Mode starts, a timer progress indicator appears at the top of Site Blocker so you can see how much time remains.
While Unstoppable Mode is active
Once started, Unstoppable Mode can't be manually stopped, disabled, or bypassed until its timer finishes.
If you try to visit a blocked website, you'll see No access in Unstoppable Mode. Unlike regular Site Blocker, there's no option to continue to the website.
You can close the tab or return to Momentum, but you'll need to wait for the Unstoppable Mode timer to finish before accessing the blocked site.
💡 Using Unstoppable Mode in Focus Mode? Ending Focus Mode does not end Unstoppable Mode. The Unstoppable Mode timer continues independently, and your selected websites remain blocked until it reaches zero.
Set up Site Blocker on Safari
Safari requires additional permissions for Site Blocker to properly intercept and block websites.
Turn off cross-site tracking prevention
- Open Safari Settings.
- Select Privacy.
- Turn off Prevent cross-site tracking.
Allow access for other websites
- Open Safari Settings.
- Select Websites.
- Select Momentum under Extensions.
- Set For other websites to Allow.
- Refresh Safari after updating these settings.
After updating these settings, please refresh Safari.
Troubleshoot Site Blocker
A website isn't being blocked
First, check whether the shield icon appears next to Site Blocker. If there's no shield, Site Blocker isn't currently blocking websites.
If blocking is active, check that:
- The website's individual toggle is turned on.
- Its Blocked Group is turned on.
- The correct website domain has been added.
- Momentum has the required browser permissions.
If you see Site Blocker needs permissions, click Review and select Allow when your browser asks for permission.
Site Blocker isn't working with Focus Mode
- Open Settings :settings-2: → Focus Mode
- Find Site Blocker under Avoid distractions.
- Make sure Site Blocker is turned on.
